Dr. Miles began his career in Tarpon Springs, Florida, following graduation from the veterinary college at the University of Florida in 1984. To supplement his income, he worked nights at a local emergency animal clinic, where he developed a keen interest in emergency and critical care medicine. Two years later, he accepted a full-time position with the Animal Emergency Clinic in West Palm Beach and subsequently purchased the practice with another veterinarian. In 1994, they opened a second Emergency Clinic in Deerfield Beach. These two clinics provided emergency coverage every night and weekend for over 150 local veterinarians extending from north Broward county to the northern extremes of West Palm Beach. By 2001, the two hospitals employed 12 emergency clinicians. On Sundays, it was not uncommon to treat 50 to 75 emergencies in each veterinary hospital. The animal hospitals had the privilege of providing emergency care for several of the local law enforcement canine units. In 2003, Dr. Miles sold the practices to travel and pursue other interests. After a brief reprieve, he returned to general practice doing per diem relief work in South Florida, Washington D.C., Baltimore and Annapolis, MD. Today, he enjoys running a practice near his home in North Palm Beach. When asked to reflect on his career, his comment is “Emergency Medicine was interesting and challenging. Things were never boring. It gave me the opportunity to work, learn and grow with some great practitioners. The cases we dealt with and knowledge gained continue to serve me well.” Dr. Miles welcomes the opportunity to assist you with meeting the needs of your pets.
